Anita Storey

I was born in Accra, Ghana, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Ghana, Legon.

I attended the nurses and midwifery training college, Korle Bu, also in Ghana. I'm employed as a hospital midwife at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital in Ghana, formerly the Ridge Regional Hospital.

I specialize in helping pregnant women throughout pre-natal, delivery, and postpartum phases of their birth experience.

A number of years ago, pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence became rampant in Ghana, and the only solution that could be taught was surgery. These women had to undergo dangerous and cruel surgeries, which placed them at risk for other serious complications.

My interest in helping the women in Ghana manage their prolapse and urinary incontinence drew me to the work of Christine Kent, Founder of Whole Woman.

My goal is to share my knowledge with other women across the globe, and to give women living with prolapse the hope of living a healthy and satisfying lifestyle while learning how to manage this non-life-threatening condition, which causes quality of life issues worldwide.

I am available for telephone and internet consultations, individual or group discussions.

A Ghana Case study of Madam E.O.

By Anita Dwamena Storey
Whole Woman Practitioner

Basic information:

  • Age: 36years

  • G2po (gravida 2 and parity 0) an elderly primp who had successfully gone through the cycles of pregnancy and being pregnant.

  • Had surgery (c-section) with the indication of elderly primp with prolong infertility and previous laparotomy plus bladder repair.

  • Patient had a bladder injury during surgery, which was eventually repaired. Though repaired, patient had a problem of urinary incontinence.

There is an ecology of bad ideas, just as there is an ecology of weeds, and it is characteristic of the system that basic error propagates itself. It branches out like a rooted parasite through the tissue of life and everything gets into a rather peculiar mess. (Batson,…)

The Whole Woman knowledge had given me the opportunity to help Madam E .O successfully manage her urinary incontinence issues, which had made life rather uncomfortable for her.

A lot of people have the myth that urinary incontinence is normal after childbirth and as we age. The fact is that it is common but it’s not normal and can be repaired.

Although there are many causes of urinary incontinence, from instability of the bladder muscle to neurological; surgeries performed are to relieve symptoms of stress urinary incontinence. Over one hundred surgical procedures have been used to treat the symptoms of stress incontinence. No ideal method has ever been found and all procedures are said to have a failure rate of between 15% and 50%.  Female Urinary Incontinence affects up to 38% of women and despite the extent of this problem, there have been few advances in the treatment disorder (Kent, …)

This client had Urinary Incontinence reversed using the Whole Woman way as well as undergoing bladder training. I provided her with instruction on the anatomy of her continence system and trained her in the Whole Woman urinary incontinence exercise program designed specifically to restore her control, just as a child develops urinary control as it gains strength to stand and walk. After some three sessions, she reported significant improvement in her urinary control and she should continue to see some more improvement over the next few weeks, with some further sessions. Madam E.O. was referred by an obstetric gynecologist who believed in the Whole Woman body of knowledge. She now has control over her bladder and she doesn’t have to go through such embarrassing situations.

“I am truly grateful for making life meaningful once more” – Madam E.O.

In conclusion, use of the Whole Woman approach to identify and manage Urinary Incontinence is a valuable tool. Here, we describe the specific steps to facilitate proper bladder control.
